Rural and Regional Network
The move to a competitive electricity and gas market has fundamentally altered the way consumers buy energy, and a number of issues have emerged which particularly affect rural and regional Victorians. And of course water continues to be a priority issue for many rural and regional consumers.
The Rural and Regional Network helps consumers and consumer groups in rural and regional Victoria represent their interests more effectively. Its objectives are to:
- facilitate the participation of rural and regional consumers in the policy and regulatory debate on electricity, gas and water
- alert rural and regional consumers to forthcoming policy and regulatory reviews
- help rural and regional consumers to identify and access existing areas of knowledge and expertise on utilities issues
- assist rural and regional consumers identify opportunities for collaboration with similarly-placed groups.
The Network has the support of relevant Victorian Government agencies that supply information to participants and provide briefing and training on some of the more complex energy and water issues. It is structured on an email network and participants are drawn from across rural and regional Victoria, including residents, farmers, businesses, local government representatives and community groups.
As part of the Network, you receive a quarterly newsletter which contains detailed information from government, other Network participants, and consumer and business groups. Between newsletters you are kept informed about upcoming reviews (policy and regulatory), consultations, workshops and/or seminars via brief email alerts that explain what is going on and highlight reasons why you might like to respond.
